September Issue 2010

A Note From The Publisher.........

Publisher's comment...

At the recent BCMAwards fundraiser event held in West Yorkshire it was a pleasure to be part of such a fabulous day. It reminded me of the days when I first started dancing where everyone was up for having a good time and enjoying the day out. So eager were some people that they came even before some of the volunteer helpers who, by the way, were an asset in making the day go along so smoothly. People came along from all over the UK and joined in with the dancing and games. The artists and the dj gave their support and time and were pleased to have been there and be able to perform to so many people in such a super venue.

As we get to the end of yet another festival season, on the whole, we have enjoyed particularly good weather this summer at the shows and most have been well supported. We have a few reports in this issue and they remark on the good attendance along with some good acts not generally seen in the clubs. It is always a good time for everyone to meet up with their once-a-year friends too. The first thing we do when we get there is set up our chairs and then off we go, hardly getting the chance to sit it in them, as we wander around the stalls, listen to the acts and chat to anyone who will listen. It is all part of the fun.

We already know where we will be going during the Christmas and New Year break and have booked for one or two more weekend events in January so the latter end of this year and early next looks like being as busy as ever. I hope it is for you too!
Also, our local club has some fine acts booked and that too is usually busy on a Thursday evening. It is one of the those clubs where the dancers have to think about their dances. Do you remember those days? It is much more fun than dancing the same dance to the same tune.

I heard that the recent Lady Antebellum concert was a sell-out and the audience was made up predominantly of Country music fans. I thought that because the advertising had been placed in the commercial market, a more pop orientated crowd would have been there but from the feedback I have received and from the questions asked of the younger generation, they had come because they know of Lady A as a Country band. Next time, I presume the marketing will be aimed more at the Country scene after they dipped their toes in the UK pond as it were.

The Country music artists especially from the US still don¹t seem to know what a huge market place for Country music the UK is and they are still blown away by the support they receive when performing here. Anyway, we have had a good couple of years with some good artists and let¹s hope it continues.
